Cobblestone appearance of the bowel.

Cobblestones are naturally rounded stones (larger than a pebble and smaller than a boulder) with a characteristic rounded upper surface.

These stones are used in paving streets or construction. The cobble stoned pavements are set in such a way that the cobble stones are irregularly placed between the surface of the road.

Crohn's disease is characterised by cobblestone appearance of the intestinal mucosa involving mainly the
terminal ileum and the colon.

In Crohn's disease, similar to cobble stone pavements, the mucosal surface of intestine shows areas of mucosal island (cobblestone like) interspersed with fissures (like the road surface in-between cobble stones).
